My take on the MET Gala 2013

12 05 2013

What an A List night! A fashionista’s heaven! An event not to be missed – and this years theme, made that even more so. It’s punk rock theme lead to some chaotic couture. As the red carpet filled with attitude and edge, out favourite A-listers said goodbye to all things safe and girly (unless we’re talking about Gywnneth Paltrow’s pink number…And can we please NOT talk about that one…). As many people got it SO right, many others got it SOOOOO wrong! But, let’s focus on the positive here,¬†folks and dive into the darkness….ūüôā

Punk Princesses…

Sienna Miller

Cara Delevigne

Olivia Wilde

My top three ladies of the night – each looking suitably stylish with punk undertones. And all ¬†proving that you don’t need piercings or tattoos to rock it. Or all over gun metal… Here’s looking at you Miley….

Short and Fierce

Kate Bosworth

Brooklyn Decker

Felicity Jones

Although not typically punk rock, I loved both ladies accessories with these dresses. ¬†We often see this side of Kate, but I was very pleasantly surprised with Ms Decker who can really pull off a nice plum lip colour! As for Felicity – I’m not sure if you know this, but I adore this girl, and I adore this laser cut dress.

As if we could forget…

Mary Kate Olsen

Mary Kate Olsen

Rooney Mara

You never forget an Olsen walking the red carpet – but my eyes wish they had NEVER seen the get up Ashley arrived in. Thankfully, her lovely twin, MK saved the day in this very cool navy number, topped off with incredible fur and punk necklaces. Heads turned, for sure, when the girl with the dragon tattoo came along also and for all the right reasons. Simply amazing!

Let’s get some input going here on Anna Wintour’s big fashion night out – what do you all think of the theme and those smoking hot celebrities? And let’s stay well clear of any talk of the ‘Kardashian’ variety….

Alex and Ani +Energy

28 02 2013

Yaaaaay! I waited so long to get my hands on some amazing Alex and Ani jewellery. After learning about their positive energy philosophy, I was sold. The only problem was deciding which symbol was for me, which is possibly why it took me so long to get these gorgeous bangles. Wanna see?!

So, my choices. Well I had to go with Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travel. Travel means so much to me and this symbol represents strength, protection and aid. Followed up with Seven Swords, which is actually a symbol of love and radiance. It represents seven Archangels and their world of love symbolised by a radiant flame. The Om symbol is probably the best known one. Its a sound resonating throughout the body into the soul. Alex and Ani tell us to wear this charm to connect with inner spirit, accept serenity and embrace faith.

I know what you might be thinking…. a load of waffle? But you can’t deny how cute they are. I am thrilled with my charms and intend to embrace their +Energy. And, I am not the only one – The Alex and Ani counter was very popular with many of the charms selling out here in Arnotts. Get them QUICK!

The Oscars 2013…. According to Me

26 02 2013

And the Oscar goes to….

Hollywood Glamour : Jessica Chastain

Jessica was first to arrive and really got the red carpet going in this Armani Prive dress. She looks simply stunning. Her hair and make up team have nailed this look on her – so perfect.

Best ‘Pouff’: Amy Adams

Just look at that train – she had to sit in the front row to accommodate the dress! She looked gorgeous in Oscar De La Renta – is her hair darker? I love it!

Best Colour: Kerry Washington

I simply adore this Miu Miu number – the coral / red tones and the embroidered bust are simply divine! And, it was good to see some colour pop on the carpet – she certainly stood out!

Best Costume Change : Amanda Seyfried

She quickly slipped out of her gorge Alexander McQueen into her (not-so-gorge…) Givenchy number for her performance. And rumour has it, she stayed in it because the McQueen beauty was too uncomfortable!

Best After-Party Dress: Kate Bosworth

kbO13

You can always count on Kate for a party look – and this Giambattista Valli number is a winner. I’d love to know how she partied inside the Vanity Fair after party. I am convinced we could be besties!

And the Leading Lady: Jennifer Lawrence

Did you think I would leave her out??! The girl is the BOMB! And the dress keeps growing on me. We knew it would be Dior Couture, right?! I’m also a big fan of the Calvin Klein Collection dress she changed into for the after party.

Ladies in Supporting Roles: Anne Hathaway and Zoe Saldana

What do you think of my Oscar Winners?

Current Faves…

10 02 2013

2013 is off to a great start! Besides from the relentless bad weather, there has been much to make me smile. Here’s a quick synopsis for you!

The Movie: Les Miserables – what a tear jerker! Loved every second of it and am head over heels for Marius (Eddie Redmayne)

The Girl: Jennifer Lawrence – The girl certainly is ‘on fire’ these days. Her movie and her gowns promoting said movie have been flawless. Plus, she’s funny and her speeches are sweet. Simply Love Her.

The Song: Pompeii, Bastille – simply a great tune!

The book: Gone Girl – a real page turner.

The Blogger(s) – Sincerely, Jules and This Chick’s Got Style making me green with envy with every post!

The Breakfast: Hatch and Sons – a great little place I had breakfast last Sunday!

The Place: Brick Lane – had a fab weekend in London at the end of January and fell in love with this place. The bustle, the food and the art all helped create such a buzz. I found it so difficult to tear myself away. Feeling some serious London Love at the min!

The Shows: NYFW РPrabal Gurung, Jason Wu and Rebecca Minkoff made me excited for Fall!

The App: Vine – I just love following Jaime King on this – she makes me laugh!

That’s all for now! Thanks for checking in!

Golden Globes 2013 – Red Carpet Winners

16 01 2013

So, what did we make of the Golden Globes this year? From what I’ve seen there’s a lot of mixed reactions when it comes to the dresses. Some left me baffled, quite frankly. Too many deep, deep v’s and knicker high splits. Like, weren’t we all making fun on Angelina’s leg last year? And now, everyone is doing it. I do not understand! The Globes fashion has let me down, but I did manage to find a few looks that I liked.

The Top 3…..

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba

Naomi Watts

Naomi Watts

Noteworthy Gowns…

Amanda Seyfried

Emily Blunt

Claire Danes

Claire Danes

Kate Hudson

Nicole Richie

The Ugly…..

Halle Berry

Eva Longoria

Taylor Swift

Heidi Klum

All in all, too much boob, too much leg, too much dark lipsticks and not enough good risk taking. I am eagerly awaiting the Oscars Red Carpet. Let’s see if my top three will get it right again.

What do you guys think??!
